PROJECT SYNOPSIS

Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RF) Proprietary Limited (RDM) operates an explosives manufacturing facility in Somerset West (‘the facility’). The facility operates under an Atmospheric Emission Licence (AEL) (Ref. No.: WCCT 004) granted in terms of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004 (NEM:AQA). RDM is in the process of renewing their AEL, which is valid until 5 November 2025, under the following listed activity:

Category 8: Thermal Treatment of Hazardous and General Waste

  • Sub-Category 8.3: Burning Grounds

STATUS OF PROJECT

The draft AEL renewal application is currently available for a 30 day public comment period. Stakeholders are invited to submit comments on the draft AEL renewal application and/or register on the project database via the following link: https://forms.office.com/r/pi1RTwDUaX. Alternatively, written comments can be submitted to Yakira Naina of SRK at ctpp@srk.co.za.  

Comments and/or requests for registration must be submitted by 31 October 2025.
