In mining, Jonathan has carried out stability analyses, design parameter calculations, and advanced numerical assessments, providing geotechnical support for short- and long-term mine plans. He has participated in projects in Chile, Peru, South Africa, and Mexico, addressing complex technical challenges in operations and studies related to open pits, underground excavations, and pit–underground interactions.
His experience includes involvement in key projects such as Los Pelambres, Antucoya, Centinela (AMSA), MH SUR, Chuquicamata and Andina (CODELCO); the Petra Diamonds mine in South Africa; and the Cerro Lindo, Chungar and Marcobre mines in Peru, as well as the pit–underground interaction at the El Limón mine in Mexico.
In Mexico, he worked in the Public Works and Finance division of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), supporting the contractual follow-up of 17 projects, in addition to carrying out geotechnical analyses for retaining walls and slopes at electrical substations.
He also collaborated with TGC Geotecnia on slope stability analyses for the Tijuana–Ensenada Scenic Highway, as well as on the design and analysis of a drainage gallery associated with that project.
In 2019, he represented Mexico as an “Early Career” delegate at the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) Congress, held in Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.
