In a meaningful demonstration of corporate social responsibility, SRK Consulting China Ltd, in partnership with the Dali Love Social Community (DLSC), has extended its support to Tuanjie Complete Primary School in Midu County, Yunnan Province. This activity was the second initiative forming part of SRK China's ongoing commitment to community welfare.
On July 8, 2024, SRK China and DLSC donated essential bedding sets to 117 students at Tuanjie Complete Primary School. Nestled in the Ailao Mountains, the school serves a predominantly Yi ethnic minority community. Due to the absence of proper roads in the community, many villages still rely on traditional transportation methods such as human and animal power. The region faces significant challenges, including poor transportation infrastructure and limited economic opportunities, which impact the residents' ability to access education and improve their living conditions.
The school, located 106 km from Midu County, provides boarding facilities for students aged 3 to 11. These children, who stay at the school from Sunday to Friday, rely on the institution for both education and accommodation. The donation of bedding sets aims to enhance their living conditions, providing comfort and warmth in a challenging environment.
Support for the initiative was met with enthusiasm from SRK colleagues, who eagerly participated in the fundraising efforts.
To ensure inclusivity, a suggested donation limit of RMB300 per person was set. However, many colleagues expressed a desire to contribute more, reflecting their deep commitment to the cause. In total, SRK staff and the company raised RMB9,000, with an additional RMB2,465 contributed by the NGO. These funds covered the cost of the bedding sets and transportation expenses.
The donation event was attended by SRK representatives and NGO staff, who travelled to the remote school to oversee the distribution of the bedding sets. The journey, a gruelling four-hour drive through rugged terrain, highlighted the isolation faced by the community, especially during the rainy season.
Upon arrival, the team witnessed, first-hand, the challenging conditions within the student dormitories, where up to 22 students share a single room. Despite these hardships, the students persevere and remain dedicated to their studies, driven by the hope of achieving a better future.
As SRK Consulting celebrates its 50th anniversary, the company reaffirms its dedication to social responsibility and community development.
