The comprehensive development of this project in Chile began in 2007, continued into 2012 and covered the conceptual to supervision stages of constructing an 8 km exploration tunnel with a 4.5 m excavation diameter with a tunnel boring machine (TBM).
This study included the conceptual and basic engineering for both drill and blast and use of a TBM. SRK also developed the bidding package, supported the contractor selection process, and provided technical inspection of works such as operational control of the excavation cycle with the TBM, geological-geotechnical control of the tunnel, and topographic, quality, and cost control.
SRK undertook geotechnical field investigations, including field window mapping and photogrammetry surveys.
SRK prepared a feasibility study update to assess the technical and economic feasibility of developing the Ghuzayn 3 copper deposit.
Evaluated mining options and related risks and provided ground support and backfill recommendations
Nine years of technical work, including creating 50 3D numerical models and 110 construction drawings.
Under current environmental legislation in South Africa, tailings are viewed as potentially hazardous waste that needs to be disposed of in compliance with the appropriate minimum requirements.
Learn MoreThe purpose of this work is to introduce the concept of geotechnical zones, as an alternative to mineral zones, which are defined on the basis of the degree of weathering and the geotechnical quality of the rock mass.
Learn MoreSlope failures generally occur because of kinematic instability, when stresses within the slope exceed rock mass strength or both. However, in some situations where ground profile anomalies occur, conventional mechanisms outlined above may not explain the cause of failure.
Learn MoreThe estimation of the intact rock properties from Lab tests, as unconfined compressive strength, tensile strength and triaxial tests represents an important item of the intact rock and rock mass geotechnical characterization.
