SRK Consulting congratulates Jeff Parshley on his appointment as the full-time director of the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. Jeff will begin this new role on September 1 after a distinguished 45-year career in industry, including 38 years with SRK.

Widely recognized as a leading expert in mine closure, Jeff advised clients around the world on environmentally and socially responsible approaches to closure planning. During his time with SRK, he also made significant leadership contributions, including serving as a director on SRK’s North American and global boards and spending four years as chair of the Global Board.

“Jeff’s contribution to SRK has been exceptional,” said Terry Braun, President of SRK North America. “He has helped shape our thinking on responsible mine closure, strengthened our leadership across North America and globally, and mentored colleagues throughout the organization. While we will miss his insight and presence at SRK, we are pleased to see him bring that same commitment to his new role at the Mackay School.”

Jeff’s relationship with the Mackay School extends back many years. He has served on the Professional Advisory Board of the Department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering since it was established and currently serves as co-chair. He has also served on the College of Science Advisory Council.

“SRK has been the defining professional home of my career, and I am deeply grateful for the colleagues, clients, and opportunities that have shaped my work over many years,” Jeff said. “This next role gives me an opportunity to bring that experience back to students and to help strengthen the connection between education, research, and the needs of industry. I am excited about the challenge and optimistic about what the Mackay School can accomplish.”

Jeff has received numerous awards for his contributions to the mining industry and has twice been recognized by Mining Journal as one of the 50 most influential people in mining. He was also the principal creator of the Standardized Reclamation Cost Estimator (SRCE), a public domain tool developed in Nevada and used internationally to estimate the cost of mine reclamation.

SRK thanks Jeff for his many years of service, leadership, and technical excellence, and wishes him every success as he takes on this important academic leadership role.
