SRK Consulting has opened a new office in Bloemfontein, expanding its presence in South Africa to better support clients across the Free State and Northern Cape regions.

The new office is led by Dr Herman Booysen, Associate Partner and Principal Scientist in disaster and risk management, and builds on SRK’s established project work in the region. Supported by a local multidisciplinary team, the Bloemfontein office enables SRK to deliver regionally based technical services with support from specialists across its broader South African and international network.

The establishment of a permanent presence in Bloemfontein allows SRK to strengthen its focus on disaster and risk management, environmental services, and water-related studies, with applications across both mining and non-mining sectors. In addition to ongoing mining projects, the office will support the application of SRK’s methodologies to the agricultural sector, particularly in areas such as climate-related risk assessment, flood risk analysis, and water stewardship planning.

“These same technical frameworks and modelling approaches used in mining can be effectively applied to agriculture, particularly where water risk and climate variability are critical considerations,” said Dr Booysen.

Current work in the region includes research and project activities related to flood risk assessment and risk mitigation, supporting organisations that require predictive tools and planning frameworks to manage extreme weather events. This includes engagement with large agricultural cooperatives and institutions responsible for water and disaster management.

The Bloemfontein office is expected to support continued organic growth in the Free State and Northern Cape, with collaboration across SRK’s regional offices as client demand evolves.
