In recent years, María Isabel has specialized in the formulation of hydrogeological conceptual models and the evaluation of aquifer systems, including the analysis and monitoring of surface water flows and groundwater points. She has led the design of monitoring networks, as well as hydrochemical, geophysical, and isotopic studies. Additionally, she has provided technical support in processes such as drilling, design, installation, and purging of wells and piezometers, aimed at monitoring groundwater levels and conducting pumping tests in mining projects at prefeasibility, feasibility, and environmental licensing stages, in compliance with current regulations in Colombia.
Furthermore, she has experience in studies related to mass removal threats, water infiltration in underground works, and root cause analysis of events associated with water resources, such as impacts on slopes, bridges, and roads. She has participated in the development of technical reports and expert opinions on hydrogeology and water resource impacts, as well as in technical, economic, and environmental feasibility studies for sediment management in reservoirs linked to hydroelectric projects.
María Isabel has also provided technical support in community engagement processes with indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, within the framework of mining projects and territorial and environmental planning related to aquifer systems.
Her skills and competencies include managing technical teams and coordinating logistics in challenging terrains, such as páramos or areas with limited access or communication. Throughout her career, she has participated as a consultant in over 100 projects.
In the academic field, María Isabel has worked as a professor at the National University of Colombia (Faculty of Mines), teaching courses such as Quaternary Geology, Optical Mineralogy, and Metamorphic Rocks. She has also been a professor at EAFIT University in Medellín, where she taught courses on Photogeology, Geomorphology, and Environmental Geology.
