Grant Macfarlane

Grant’s specialisations include the project management of tailings storage facility designs, and investigation studies; design, execution and evaluation, analysis and reporting of detailed geotechnical site investigations (land and marine based) for national infrastructure (ports and railways), mining and commercial projects; earthworks and pavement design; procurement and contract administration of geotechnical contracting services; civil earthworks construction quality assurance and control.

Since joining SRK in early 2017, Grant has been involved in a number of mine tailings storage facility (TSF) projects in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Ghana and Cote de Ivoire. He is currently the designated Engineer of Record for 5 upstream-raised platinum TSFs and the EoR Assist on a mineral sand mining operation. He also contributes to independent 3rd party TSF evaluations and reviews as well as other GISTM-related assessments.

 Prior to 2017, Grant carried out detailed geotechnical site and foundation investigations for major national port and railway infrastructure projects including marine/off-shore investigations, bridges, residential, commercial and industrial townships, buildings and structures. He is a registered professional natural scientist and a member of SAICE (geotechnical division).
