Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd (Eskom) proposes to develop a Solar Photovoltaic Energy Facility , Battery Energy Storage System, and associated infrastructure within the Hendrina Power Station precinct in Mpumalanga Province. The proposed development is located within and adjacent to the existing Hendrina Power Station precinct near Pullens Hope, approximately 40 km south of Middelburg.
The project involving renewable energy generation triggers several listed activities in terms of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2014 (as amended), published under the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA, Act No. 107 of 1998) and requires a Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment (S&EIA) process. SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SRK) has been appointed by Eskom to undertake the associated S&EIA process for the proposed development.

The Draft Scoping Report is available for public review and comment for a 30-day period from 11 August to 11 September 2026. Following the review period, SRK will finalise the Scoping Report by addressing all feedback received from Interested and Affected Parties (IAP), stakeholders, and competent authorities.
IAPs and other stakeholders are invited to submit written comments or register as IAPs by sending an email to SRK at the address above. Submissions must include the project reference number, your full name, contact details (e.g., phone and/or email), and a statement of any business, financial, personal, or other interest in the application.
Please note that only registered IAPs will be notified of future opportunities to comment on project-related documentation. If you have previously registered, no further action is required. All comments and registration requests must reach SRK by no later than 12h00 on 11 September 2026..
