SRK Consulting was engaged by the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MMERE) of the Solomon Islands Government, with World Bank support, to provide technical assistance on mining and mineral data inputs to the Minerals Development Master Plan (MDMP) for the Solomon Islands.
SRK’s scope comprised three deliverables: a report on mineral asset data for the country; an exploration assessment on the country’s copper potential (including a GIS data package); and a consolidated report incorporating technical feedback from the MMERE and World Bank to support country-scale macroeconomic modelling.
The four corridors assessed were the Central Guadalcanal Gold Corridor, the Guadalcanal Copper Corridor, the Rennell–Bellona Bauxite Corridor, and the Isabel–Choiseul Nickel Corridor.
SRK compiled the geological data, assessed the exploration potential for copper, gold, nickel, bauxite and other commodities, and provided modelling information to support eight actual and potential mines across the country.
The resulting technical report provides the Solomon Islands Government and World Bank with a robust, market-ready reference to support investment attraction, infrastructure prioritisation and fiscal modelling for the minerals sector.
