Hoisting Trade-Off Study

Hoisting Trade-Off Study for an Underground Gold Mine

SRK Consulting was engaged by ABB to deliver an independent underground material-handling trade-off study for a conceptual mine, assessing whether shaft hoisting is a more effective and cost-efficient alternative to truck and conveyor haulage via decline.

The study develops comparable physicals, cost estimates and financial evaluations for hoisting, trucking and conveying across underground mine depth scenarios of 600 m, 900 m and 1,400 m. By analysing life-of-mine net present value, cost per tonne, energy consumption, ventilation impacts, development requirements and key operational factors such as haulage speed, maintenance and infrastructure needs, SRK identifies crossover domains where each material-handling option is preferred.

The resulting technical report and decision framework provide ABB with a robust, market-ready reference to articulate the benefits and challenges of hoisting relative to conventional decline haulage and to support engagement with stakeholders on future underground mining projects.
