Boke Feasibility Study - Water Management

Project Description

SRK Consulting (UK) Limited was commissioned by Dynamic Mining SARLU to contribute to a Feasibility Study for the Bon Ami Bauxite Project located in the Boké District of north-western Guinea. The project covered water management components at the mine site and port, ensuring sustainable water supply and an effective water balance throughout the project lifecycle.

The project setting required careful consideration of local hydrology and hydrogeology to manage water resources effectively. SRK's role involved conducting comprehensive studies on water management, including the assessment of mine site hydrology, haul road hydrology and hydraulics, and overall water demand and supply.

SRK’s study included an evaluation of the hydrological and hydraulic conditions at the mine site and along the haul road, estimating peak flows to design appropriate water management infrastructure. SRK also assessed the water supply options for the project, identifying groundwater wellfields and surface water sources to meet the project's water demands. This ensured water management system could handle the variable precipitation patterns and provide a reliable water supply throughout the year.

SRK's recommendations led to the design of a water management system that minimised environmental impact and ensured compliance with regulatory standards, with settling ponds and diversion channels to manage stormwater runoff and sedimentation, reducing the risk of flooding and erosion. Additionally, the identification of productive aquifers to host project wellfields provided a sustainable water supply option, enhancing the project's overall water security.
