Terry Braun, president of SRK North America, has been named director of the Tailings Center, an industry-research consortium established by the Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, and the University of Arizona. As a recognized leader in tailings management and former Industry Advisory Board Chair for the Tailings Center, Terry brings a wealth of expertise to the role while continuing to lead SRK’s North American operations.

In the tradition of SRK contributing to industry and academic initiatives, this role provides an opportunity to promote and enhance professional development, to increase tailings and mine waste related course content for undergraduate and graduate students, and to advance strategic research initiatives identified by our partners. Along the way, we will continue to be a platform for students to network with industry professionals," said Terry Braun.

The Tailings Center is a leading research and education hub designed to address the mining industry's growing need for specialized tailings engineers. The center conducts research related to tailings and mine waste management, offers professional development courses, and provides graduate certificates in tailings management. The center promotes the sustainable design, operation, and closure of the world’s tailings storage facilities (TSFs), defining long-term benefits for global communities and the environment.

With over 30 years of experience in mining and environmental projects, Terry specializes in mine closure planning and design, financial provisions, water management, and the evaluation of base metal and industrial mineral resources. Based in SRK’s Denver office, his practice spans various environmental compliance activities and the development of engineered solutions to address potential liabilities at mining and industrial operations. His appointment as director of the Tailings Center reflects SRK’s commitment to fostering industry leaders who drive innovation and sustainability in mining.
