Maureen Upton, a leading expert in sustainable development, has joined SRK Consulting’s Denver office as a principal consultant. Maureen leads research projects, authors industry studies, and advises clients on economic impact, social license to operate, and the effect of social risk on project and company valuation.
Before joining SRK, Maureen founded—and then for nine years operated—the consulting firm Resource Initiatives, where she worked with some of the world’s largest organizations in the extractive industries. She has also served as sustainability advisor to the World Gold Council and director of public affairs and communications at Newmont Mining Corporation. With other prior roles including serving on the board of Janus Funds and positions at Goldman Sachs and Chase, Maureen has a wealth of knowledge to contribute to SRK. She frequently gives presentations on sustainable development, including her keynote speech to the Denver Gold Forum in 2015, and has produced short documentaries, which have been screened at the World Bank and the Lima Gold Symposium.
Maureen holds a master of business administration in finance and a master of international affairs in economic policy from Columbia University and a bachelor of arts in philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley.
