SRK Consulting’s Mark Noppé is leaving to become director of the W.H. Bryan Mining Geology Research Centre (BRC) at The University of Queensland's Sustainable Minerals Institute (SMI). Mark currently serves as group chair of SRK Global and a corporate consultant. He was managing director of SRK Australia until earlier this year. This move undoubtably provides SRK and SMI with a closer link for collaboration. Mark will begin his appointment in October 2022.

"Mark has made an outstanding contribution as a consultant and leader in SRK Australia and SRK globally for which we are grateful,” says Tim McGurk, group CEO of SRK Global. “Although Mark is moving on, through this new appointment SRK is pleased to be building closer ties with the SMI, which we consider a leader in driving industry improvements through research discovery and collaborative global initiatives.”

Mark agreed. “The opportunity to work with the SMI comes at an exciting time for the industry. Finding viable and lasting solutions to challenges and opportunities are crucial for the minerals industry's ongoing contribution to local and global economies,” he said.

Professor Rick Valenta, acting director – production at SMI, commented, "Mark is taking over leadership of the BRC at a time when applied geoscience is more important than ever as a contributor to achieving the responsible mineral supply needed for future sustainability. He brings a wealth of relevant expertise to this role and will be an integral part of the SMI’s senior leadership team as we continue to develop people and programs that will create change in the way society produces and uses minerals for a sustainable future. We welcome the prospect of closer collaboration with SRK to achieve these aims."
