Student-Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) 2025

Designed for upper-year geoscience students aspiring towards a future in mineral exploration and mining, S-IMEW provides a rare opportunity to acquire both technical and business perspectives of mineral exploration that complements their academics.

The workshop will open with a Welcome Reception at Dynamic Earth in Sudbury featuring keynote speaker Catharine Farrow, President, FarExGeoMine Ltd. Students will participate in regional geology tours, geophysical survey demonstrations, geochemical sampling exercises, regional and exploration mapping and 3D modelling demos. The field days will be complimented by in class presentations on important subjects such as mineral economics, ESG, mental health & safety, resource modelling and interpretation of data. The group will head to Timmins for the four-day field trip where they will learn about the regional geology of the area, participate in underground mine tours at the Timmins West and Bell Creek mines, and visit exploration companies for core logging and core viewing exercises.

In addition to the practical skills the students will gain throughout the workshop they will also have the invaluable opportunity to network with more than 80 industry experts and leaders from the mineral exploration and mining sector at events such as the Welcome Reception and the S-IMEW Finale Dinner.
