Machine learning, deep neural networks, computer vision and large language models, collectively referred to as artificial intelligence (AI) has driven significant advancements in mining exploration and development. As with any emerging technology, its adoption has elicited both enthusiasm and skepticism. This session will explore AI relevance to the mining industry – beginning with the impact of AI, followed by case studies showcasing technologies and their practical uses. The session will conclude with a roundtable discussion on the value and challenges of AI in mining, and its projected impact over the coming decade.
