Mr Li Xinchuang

President, China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute

Mr Li Xinchuang is a State Council Special Allowance Expert, professor-level senior engineer and registered consulting engineer (investment). He holds various positions, including President and Chief Engineer of China Metallurgical Industry Planning and Research Institute, Vice Chairman of China Iron and Steel Association, and Director of the Metallurgical Technical Economics Committee at the Chinese Society for Metals. He has been heavily involved in developing China’s 8th to 13th Five-Year Plan and other key government policies on the iron and steel industry as well as the development planning and preliminary investigation on the feasibility of major projects for hundreds of domestic and foreign steel mills.



Philip Kirchlechner

Philip has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing, business development, and advisory in the iron ore and steel industry with global companies such as JP Morgan and Rio Tinto. Philip was one of the first people to join Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) when it was a small start-up in 2003 and participated in the growth of a remarkable success story.  
While at Rio Tinto, he was based in Shanghai and closely involved with decision-makers in China’s steel industry and government. He lived in China for 16 years, is fluent in Mandarin, and was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Beijing Language and Culture University. Philip is Chair of the investment committee of the Australian China Business Council (WA).



Peter Hannah

Index Manager, Fastmarkets

Peter Hannah is currently the Index Manager for Fastmarkets Metals & Mining, leading the group’s efforts to develop pricing mechanisms across a broad portfolio of commodities. He has led the development of a number of market benchmarks in various sectors including iron ore, coking coal, manganese ore and copper concentrates. These include the Fastmarkets MB 65% Fe Fines Index, which is the primary physical market benchmark for high-grade iron ore and the settlement basis for SGX’s rapidly growing 65% Fe iron ore derivative contract. Prior to joining Fastmarkets MB in 2013, Peter worked as a geologist focusing on gold and base metals exploration in Tanzania. He earned a degree in Geology from the University of Bristol and his Masters in Mining Geology from the Camborne School of Mines.

Michael Lowry

Michael Lowry
Principal Resource Geologist, SRK Consulting

Michael is a geologist with over 24 years’ experience in the mining industry, specialising in mine geology, reconciliation, brownfields exploration and resource estimation before moving to consulting. Michael has experience in a variety of terrains and commodities, primarily iron ore, nickel and gold. Michael has a strong operational focus to his resource sector career, starting out as an underground gold mine geologist in 1996 with Great Central Mines/ Normandy Mining then joining WMC / BHP at their Leinster operations working as an underground nickel mine geologist. Michael then spent 11 years as a Resource Geologist initially with Rio Tinto’s Pilbara Iron business and then with BHP’s Iron Ore division, which included six years’ experience as a Mineral Resources Competent Person for BHP.  He joined SRK in 2018 where he has been able to apply his mine geology, modelling and resource estimation skills  across a broader range of commodities and jurisdictions as well as specialise in reconciliation system reviews and governance audits.  Michael’s work includes an ongoing focus on iron ore.
