Innovation and Application in Mine Waste Characterization

For owners and operators this can be a confusing component of the mining project with multiple choices of laboratory protocols and approaches. In Nevada, the approach to mine waste characterization has been evolving in response to changes in technology and best practices within the wider mining industry. These changes aim to streamline the characterization process. However, specialist scrutiny and interpretation of the information is essential for successful application of the data. This workshop will provide an introduction and explanation of current approaches in sampling, analysis and data interrogation. In addition, novel and innovate ideas related to understanding controls on mine waste weathering and application to water quality predictions, mine waste management and closure strategies will be reviewed and the merits of each assessed.
