Vassie Maharaj is a Principal Consultant and Partner at SRK Consulting (South Africa). She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry and Physiology from the University of Durban-Westville in South Africa. Vassie's main focus of professional activities include social risk management, stakeholder engagement, due diligence reviews, and auditing. She serves as project partner and technical reviewer on social impact assessments and stakeholder engagement processes for large-scale developments, including projects that form part of bankable feasibility studies that need to meet international lender requirements. She regularly participates in due diligence reviews for mining companies and financial institutions to identify potential social risks and liabilities. She has project experience in the following sectors; mining, infrastructure, oil and gas, agriculture and energy. Vassie has worked in several African countries, notably the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Zanzibar, Sierra Leone as well as Yemen, and Indonesia. Vassie has vast working experience in diverse and remote locations, across cultural and language boundaries.
