Erhan Karakaya (BSc, MSc, MAusIMM) is a Principal Consultant (Mining Engineering) currently based in Almaty and working for SRK Kazakhstan. He has over 30 years of experience in mine planning and mine production in commodities mainly gold, copper, lead, zinc, manganese, iron ore and coal. His expertise involves technical reviews, mining studies including scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, optimisation of mining operations, mining method selection, equipment selection, productivity analysis, capital and operating cost estimation and project risk analysis. He is a qualified user of mine planning, optimisation and scheduling packages such as Whittle, Surpac and Deswik. Erhan was involved with the development of the following major mining technical studies: Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia, Udokan in Russia and Almalyk in Uzbekistan, and helped to deliver these projects on time and within budget.
