Position Overview
SRK Consulting is seeking a qualified Civil Engineer (recent graduate with or without work experience) to join our Kitwe office in Zambia. This role supports the SRK South Africa initiative of supporting the Kitwe office to develop Zambian engineers and scientists. Technical support will primarily be from the South African-based Engeo specialist business unit which is based in Johannesburg. The position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute to geotechnical and mine tailings storage facility - related projects mostly in the Zambian Copper Belt, within a well-respected, employee-owned consulting company with over 50 years of experience.
Description of Responsibilities
Technical Experience and Skills
• Under the guidance of experienced senior engineers, the candidate will:
• Assist with site investigations and inspections.
• Support tailings and geotechnical design tasks including but not limited to stability and seepage analyses, settlement and deformation analyses, help prepare design drawings and details, technical specifications and bills of quantities.
• Contribute to TSF monitoring and performance assessments through instrumentation planning and data collection, review and interpretation of monitoring data and preparation of reports for senior review.
• Support project delivery and coordination.

• Deliver on mine tailings storage facility (TSF) projects in accordance with best international standards and practice,
• Contribute primarily to an Engineer of Record (EoR) team of specialist engineers and scientists through the analysis of surveillance and monitoring data, specialist studies in the field and laboratory, written reporting, design and construction activities, and meetings with Clients.
• Contribute to high-quality client service, sound engineering practice and practical project outcomes.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:
• A Zambian national (essential).
• Be willing to live and work from Kitwe, Zambia, and also travel to mines in and beyond the borders of Zambia, and to the supporting office based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (essential). A post-graduate degree with a focus on geotechnical engineering would be advantageous.
• Professional registration with the EIZ or an equivalent recognised professional body would be advantageous.
