We are seeking a Senior to Principal Geotechnical Engineer / Ingénieur(e) géotechnique – niveau sénior à principal(e).


Description of Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will provide engineering and consulting support on projects for North American and international clients. The majority of the work is related to engineering studies, design and earthworks construction for proposed and existing tailings and mine waste management facilities, water management facilities and mine closure related projects. The successful applicant will be based in Quebec City, Montreal, or Toronto, and will work on projects in Canada and abroad as part of a larger team of engineers and scientists based in our Canadian offices, with opportunities to collaborate with SRK’s global team. The successful applicant will have a keen interest in pursuing a career in geotechnical engineering as it applies to the mining industry, a willingness to travel to remote locations, a strong desire to learn and enthusiasm for working on a team.

The position involves the following range of typical activities:

  • Execution or leadership of geotechnical engineering projects, related to tailings and mine waste projects at all phases of the mine life, including planning, construction, operations, or closure and reclamation.
  • Supporting or leading geotechnical site investigations and instrumentation programs.
  • Preparation and review of supporting engineering calculations, models, and methods.
  • Interface with clients and completion of site visits/inspections as necessary.
  • Providing on-site construction supervision for projects at mine sites.
  • Geotechnical data management, analysis and reporting.
  • Performing geotechnical analyses and design.
  • Preparing, or assisting in the preparation of, drawings, technical reports and memos.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary design teams with hydrotechnical, hydrogeological, geochemical, and civil disciplines.
  • Active engagement in development and/or advancement of SRK’s engineering practice.
  • Active engagement and participation in business development.
  • Active engagement in mentoring others.

La personne retenue fournira un soutien en ingénierie et en consultation sur des projets pour des clients nord-américains et internationaux. La majeure partie du travail est liée aux études d’ingénierie, à la conception et à la réalisation de travaux de terrassement pour des parcs à résidus et installations de gestion des rejets miniers (existants et projetés), des installations de gestion de l’eau, ainsi que des projets liés à la fermeture de mines.

La personne retenue sera basée à Québec, Montréal ou Toronto et travaillera sur des projets au Canada et à l’international au sein d’une équipe élargie d’ingénieurs et de scientifiques basée dans nos bureaux canadiens, avec des occasions de collaboration avec l’équipe mondiale de SRK. Elle démontrera un intérêt marqué pour une carrière en géotechnique appliquée à l’industrie minière, une volonté de voyager dans des sites éloignés, un fort désir d’apprendre et de l’enthousiasme pour le travail d’équipe.

Les tâches typiques liées au poste comprennent notamment :

  • Réalisation ou direction de projets en ingénierie géotechnique liés aux rejets et aux résidus miniers à toutes les phases du cycle de vie d’une mine, y compris la construction, l’exploitation, la fermeture et la restauration.
  • Soutien ou direction de campagnes d’investigation géotechnique et de programmes d’instrumentation.
  • Préparation et révision de calculs, modèles et méthodes d’ingénierie.
  • Interaction avec les clients et réalisation de visites ou d’inspections de sites, au besoin.
  • Supervision de travaux de construction sur les sites miniers.
  • Gestion, analyse et interprétation des données géotechniques, ainsi que la rédaction des rapports associés.
  • Réalisation d’analyses et de conceptions géotechniques.
  • Préparation, ou contribution à la préparation, de plans, rapports techniques et notes de service.
  • Participation à des équipes de conception multidisciplinaires (hydrotechnique, hydrogéologie, géochimie, génie civil, etc.).
  • Contribution active au développement et à l’amélioration des pratiques d’ingénierie de SRK.
  • Participation active au développement des affaires.
  • Participation active au mentorat de collègues.

Essential Requirements:

Undergraduate degree in geotechnical, geological, environmental or civil engineering.

  • More than 10 years of engineering experience.
  • Registered or eligible for professional registration (OIQ and PEng).
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Commitment to conducting work safely.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • A positive and enthusiastic attitude, with a willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Willingness to travel locally, nationally and possibly internationally.
  • Ability to work independently, onsite, outside and in remote locations.
  • Ability to work long hours in the field, tolerating variable weather conditions.
  • Bilingual in English and French.

Valuable Skills:

  • Experience with engineering software applications is an asset (e.g., Geostudio, Rocscience, AutoCAD, Muk3D).
  • Strong risk analysis skills, with the ability to bridge design activities and FME/FMEA-type exercises
  • Experience with data science and coding (Python) is an asset.
  • Experience with soil logging or soil testing is an asset.
  • Construction QA/QC or general construction experience is an asset.
  • Graduate degrees in a related field are considered an asset.

This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects and may include international travel.

  • Plus de 10 ans d’expérience en ingénierie.
  • Membre, ou admissible à devenir membre, d’un ordre professionnel (OIQ et PEng).
  • Permis de conduire valide et bon dossier de conduite.
  • Engagement démontré envers la santé et la sécurité au travail.
  • Excellentes aptitudes interpersonnelles et de communication, tant à l’oral qu’à l’écrit.
  • Attitude positive et enthousiaste, avec une volonté de relever de nouveaux défis.
  • Disponibilité pour voyager localement, au niveau national et possiblement à l’international.
  • Capacité à travailler de façon autonome, sur le terrain, à l’extérieur et dans des sites éloignés.
  • Capacité à travailler de longues heures sur le terrain dans des conditions météorologiques variables.
  • Bilinguisme français/anglais (oral et écrit).

Compétences appréciées :

  • Expérience avec des logiciels d’ingénierie (par exemple : Geostudio, Rocscience, AutoCAD, Muk3D).
  • Solides compétences en analyse de risques, permettant d’assurer le lien entre la conception des ouvrages et les exercices de type AMDE/AMDEC (FME/FMEA)
  • Expérience en science des données et en programmation (Python).
  • Expérience en description (caractérisation) ou essais de sols.
  • Expérience en assurance/contrôle de la qualité (AQ/CQ) de construction ou en construction en général.
  • Diplômes de deuxième ou troisième cycle dans un domaine connexe (atout).

Ce poste implique le travail au sein d’équipes multidisciplinaires sur une variété de projets et peut comporter des déplacements internationaux.
